Dallas-area home prices drop 4.1% in new report

Home values in the Dallas area are showing modest improvements from a low point set in early 2009, according to the latest data released Tuesday.

But Dallas-area prices were still down 4.1 percent in May from a year ago in Standard & Poor’s Case-Shiller Home Price Index report.

Some analysts are betting that the North Texas market will flatten out later this year after more than two years of steady declines in prices and sales.

Harbor residents want promised landscaping improvements

Mike Hargreaves, a homeowner near the swanky Harbor development at Lake Ray Hubbard, wants the trees back.

Hargreaves designed his “nest” for wife Frances 11 years ago, a 4,000-square-foot custom home in Rockwall with a panoramic lake view. It was the view, including large trees not far from the shoreline, that first attracted them, he said.

But the trees are gone. Now the view is of a hotel and a parking lot, with bits of lake on either side.
